Braj Corridor News
- First Land Acquisition (January 2026): The project reached a historic milestone on January 16, 2026, with the first official land registry. A 69.26 square-meter property in Biharipura was voluntarily registered by members of the Goswami family in favour of the local administration.
- Management & Governance: Following the Supreme Court’s 2025 approval, a 12-member sub-committee led by retired district judge Mukesh Mishra has been formed to oversee the construction. The recently passed Banke Bihari Temple Trust Bill has also established an 18-member trust to manage temple operations and the corridor’s development.
- Project Vision: The ₹500-crore corridor will span approximately 5.5 acres, designed to accommodate up to 50,000 devotees simultaneously. It will feature two levels: the ground floor for public amenities and an upper floor for temple access.
- Local Protests (January 31, 2026): Despite the land registries, local opposition remains. On January 31, 2026, members of the Goswami community and political leaders voiced concerns that the project might damage the ancient spiritual essence of Vrindavan’s narrow “Kunj” lanes
Yamuna Riverfront & Connectivity Updates
- Riverfront Development: A ₹177-crore project is transforming the Yamuna riverbank with eight grand ghats and a 600-meter-long riverfront. The plan aims to connect the riverfront directly to the Banke Bihari Temple via a continuous spiritual pathway.
- Suspension Bridge: A new bridge is proposed over the Yamuna to link the Yamuna Expressway directly to the temple area. This will allow pilgrims to park on the opposite bank and travel to the shrine via e-rickshaws, bypassing city traffic.
- Link Road Status: The ₹250-crore road project connecting the Yamuna Expressway to the Pagal Baba Temple (Luteria Hanuman Temple) is reported to be 95% complete.
- Heritage City Project: The Yamuna Expressway Authority is developing a 753-acre Heritage City in Raya, which will include a 30km riverfront extension, wellness centers, and a 100-foot statue of Lord Krishna.
Strategic Infrastructure Impact
- Real Estate Surge: Property values around the corridor area have seen a sharp increase due to improved road networks and the anticipated boom in religious tourism.
- Displacement & Resettlement: The Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority (MVDA) has identified Rukmini Vihar and Sunrakh Bangar as relocation sites for the 275 families and 200 shopkeepers impacted by the land acquisition.
